Hello! I’m Claire, a self-taught amateur baker from Bristol.

I have always enjoyed baking and can remember making fairy cakes from my Mum’s Marguerite Patten cookbook when I was about 10 years old. Soon after that, I started making savoury bakes too. My cheese scones have become a Father’s Day and birthday staple for my Dad. My Mum tells me that he does not share.

More recently, I have become interested in improving the aesthetic side of my cake baking and have invested in a few tools to help me with that, which you can read about in my Crunchie Cake post. I also think it’s time I got a bit more adventurous with my bakes and branched out into the world of pastry and bread – a challenge!

When I’m not in the kitchen, I love spending time with my husband and our little boy, investigating National Trust properties (they have good cake) and doing up our 1930’s terrace. We have two cats, Phoebe and Stanley who like to hang around and wait to see if I give in and give them some butter.
